Perhaps its the chilly retail climate and economic slowdown, but two competing ads seem insistent that you not only buy -- but appreciate, their product.
Ad 1: MGD Lite. In a typical episode, a hapless customer enjoys another brand of lite beer, and has the audacity to say "hey, this beer tastes good". Enter The Comish, who quickly sets up a podium and acts as judge and jury to berate the offender. You drank what?! And you say it tastes as good as? This 21st century Theodoric of York is a medieval tribunal, roaming the land for beer heresy is there to put down any who deign to challenge the established order...of beer!
Ad 2: Bud Lite. Here the customer denies the lightness of beer (it fills me up). Enter the inquisitor, who freezes the action and walks around the tailgate party, decrying the folly of such words. "Fills you up? FILLS YOU UP?" and then mockingly finger points to all those activities that really fill you up ("putting bratwurst into your pie hole"). You the customer can't possibly be right! Not only does light beer not fill you up...but Bud Lite is the only beer that doesn't fill you up (?).
So, be wary, Mr. Consumer, lest you make the wrong purchase, or offer a plain spoken view on product claims...it could be the rack! |

The latest angry ad has to be the Luke Wilson "Defense of AT&T's Map" ad.
In this series, a deeply affected Wilson will dismiss Verizon's claim that AT&T's coverage is lacking with a mix of personal experience, man in the street tests and most of all simple indignation! Yes, he's outraged. He simply can't believe that Verizon would say such a thing. He just had to say something!
Meanwhile, I have this sneaking suspicion that Verizon, while of course trying to make a point, is really having fun "trolling" AT&T and Wilson who apparently cannot take a joke... |
